If that does not work please check the bios of your server and set it to allow booting from a DVD/CD. For more help on this issue have a look at the manual that came with your server or contact your vendor. Click 'Next' to accept the defaults. Click 'Install Now'. Insert your product key. I always uncheck 'automatically active...' because I want to choose when to activate. Accept the terms and click next. You can only choose 'Custom (advanced). I have created a partition a little bigger then the minimum size of 60GB. If you need to load 3rd party drivers for your Raid adapter click 'Load Driver'. You can now store those on a USB drive. Click next. This will take awhile. Sit back, get a coffee and watch what is happening And get more coffee... The first part of the installation is ready. At this moment we don't do a migration from an excisting Windows domain (including an old SBS 2003) so we click 'Next'. If you do not have enough Ram in your server you will see a warning but you can still continue by checking 'I acknowledge all warnings'. Click 'Next'. Make sure you click 'Open Date and Time..' as shown in this screenshot and verify if it is set correctly. We are not in the time zone shown in the screenshot so we need to change that. Click on 'Change time zone' if needed, otherwise click OK. If you have access to the Internet, it is recommended that you choose to download updates during the installation. Setup is connecting your server to the internet. Fill in your company information. If you need change that information later you can do that on the Company Information page by using the Edit Company Information option available from the Windows SBS Console. Choose a server name and a domain name. The installer will add automatically .local to your domain name. If you need to connect Apple clients to your domain make sure add .lan to the domain name otherwise you will not be able to connect Mac computers with OS X 10.3 or higher (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=39689). Add a network administrator account and click 'Next'. We will choose to install Live OneCare for Server and Forefront Security for Exchange Server because we want to evaluate those two packages. A summary is presented. Click 'Next'. Setup is working... The server is booting... several times . And setup continues... Yes, it includes a 120 day trial of Windows Live OneCare for server and Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange. We will have another article ready in the next weeks that will cover that subject. Setup is stopping all services before initiating a reboot of your server. This can take awhile, please be patient. And the server has been rebooted again. The updates are installed... The installation was successful and we may start using the server. And here is our new SBS 2008 Management Console. Install Windows Small Business Server 2008 Premium We are going to install the SBS 2008 Premium part as an additional member server in our SBS 2008 network. Put your DVD in the DVD drive of your server and boot. Click Install Now. Make your choice as shown in the screenshot and click next Accept the license and click Next Click 'Custom'. Depending on the type of your installation you may need to create multiple partitions on multiple drives and/or arrays. That is outside of the scope of this document. Click 'Next'. The installer is working... Finally the server has rebooted and will ask you to change the password...click OK Type the new password and continue. The password has been changed and click next. Join the member server to your SBS 2008 server After you have successfully logged on to the server you MUST set the time to the correct zone. If you fail to do that you will see problems joining the server to your SBS 2008. Click 'Set time zone' in the Initial Configurations Tasks window that starts automatically after you logon. As we (Smallbizserver.net) are located in the Netherlands we need to set our time zone to 'Amsterdam'. Set the time zone and click OK Click OK to accept the new time zone setting. You will need to use the native Windows 2008 method to join the server to your SBS 2008 server. You should NOT use the http://connect wizard for joining a member server. Open Control Panel\System and click on 'Change settings'. Click 'Change'. Click Domain and fill in the domain name of your network. At the same time you change the Computer name to something more useful and easier to recognize. Fill in the administrators account credentials and click OK. If all is well you will be welcomed by your domain You are informed to save open files because the server will be restarted. You will need to restart the server. Click Close. Click Restart Now. Change the Memberserver so that is in the SBSServers OU If you open the Windows SBS console and look in the Network part you will see that the Memberserver is in the Client computer OU and therefor get Client GPO's. That is what we don't want. Open Active Directory Users and Computers and open the Hive SBSComputers and see...there is our MemberServer. Right click the MemberServer and choose Move Highlight SBSServers and choose OK. Have a look in the SBSServers OU if the MemberServer is there... Turn on Remote Desktop Choose 'Enable Remote Desktop' from the Initial Configuration Tasks. You can either choose to allow connections from any version of Remote desktop (less secure) of only allow from computers with RDP with Network Level Authentication...make you choice. The Firewall will be configured for you. Click OK. Click OK to finish. See...it is enabled now. Click Close.
